About Us

Before my husband Shirine and I accidentally became the founders of Silverflye, we became “mom” and “dad.” Except for us, that involved accidentally becoming a few other, completely different things, too. Being Mom and Dad was a dream come true to both of us. We potentially got to live out who we always expected we would become and how our daily lives would be with children. You know…the typical- long walks outside, cuddling on the couch, mid afternoon lunches, consistent nap times…Never in our lives did the notion of Expectations vs. Reality smother us as profoundly as it did when we began to raise children- we then knew who we’d really become!

We Became Hoarders.

It started with little things: our baby had been trying to fall asleep for an hour, and, in search of a snack, I mis-stepped on the wood floors. From the floorboard came that dreaded sound – CRRREEEAK! …right next to the baby’s closed door. Next came the second, even more dreaded sound: WAAAAA!

After that, we both got into a habit you might already be in: pre-nap hoarding. Your laundry, your oh-so-optimistic hot coffee – you make sure they’re right where you need them before you put the baby to bed.

The only thing is, the hoarding didn’t end there. We started hoarding baby stuff the way we’d never hoarded anything before – and it wasn’t just on-sale diapers or baby food.

We hoarded products that were 99% useless – the things you buy just for one night, hoping they might help you get some sleep.

We ended up with a spectacular collection of junk. When something, miraculously, did work, we hoarded duplicates of it, gifting it to any friends we could think of, just to find an excuse to spread the news about something that had actually helped us!

We Became Navy SEALs.

Getting into the habit of hoarding helped a little bit (read: got me halfway to the next cup of coffee), but getting all the way there was a Special Ops mission.

Our daughter had severe acid reflux as an infant – getting her to retain food was a boots-on-the-ground operation that I desperately wished I’d had emergency preparedness training for. In the car, I managed to improvise a seat protector, padding the car seat with anything I could find – sponges, bits of carpet, plastic bags, folded towels.

Getting her to sleep (a.k.a. “Operation Stealth”) was no better. I started pretty high-tech by hanging a musical mobile above my daughter’s crib. It helped her fall asleep, the music only played for 20 minutes or so – and right when the music stopped, she’d wake up. (WAAAAA!)

I reacted by pre-emptively re-starting it every 20 minutes – crawling across the floor, salamander-style. It was a little like defusing a bomb.

Is this really the best they can do?! I thought while I was leaving her room, zigzagging to avoid the creaky floorboards.

Forced to stay awake to defuse the mobile, I started sketching designs for something better – a white noise machine with a long-ranging remote control. It was something I needed to do, so that I didn’t shut down from total sleep deprivation, let alone my daughter.

The amazing thing was that once I had a prototype, I suddenly had a lot of fellow Special Operators ready to help me. Becoming a parent meant becoming part of the lives of other parents, whether I wanted to or not. When I embraced that, I found myself in a circle of friends who were already prepared to help me develop products that could help them, too.

That was when it really hit me that my personal experiences really belong to every parent. Every parent has something to share about what works and what doesn’t.

We Became Sponges.

My new “focus group” became my family. These were other parents (and some aunts, uncles, and grandparents) who got to know me, and took the time to give me lots of thoughtful feedback and criticism to make the products the best they could be.

Many of the moms even asked their kids “voice of customer” questions – and brought me back their notes!

We all started out as parents, but we became a group of people with something that was starting to look like a mission – to take products that worked, and make them a lot better based on what we learned on the front lines.

We Became Silverflye.

We Became Silverflye.

We’re calling for a rebellion against products that parents and kids never help create. Why use something that only works in theory – and then ends up in your “junk closet”? We don’t have time for junk, and we know you don’t either.

Silverflye products are refined and perfected through thousands of hours of collaborative work by parents – and kids!

We turn OK products into amazing products, so you can depend on them – and not only for a few deep breaths on Sunday night, but seven days a week. Silverflye comes from the real experiences of parents, and the real things kids do and say.

So you can get back to making sure that toothbrush that just went in the toilet isn’t going into anybody’s mouth.

“Great Product for moms and dads out there! It definitely helps to keep my car clean especially when juggling so many things already. I have somewhat of a peace of mind, especially being a little clean freak, knowing that all the mess, little crumbs and snacks the little one makes can be contained and easily discarded after every car ride/stroll ride we make. I love that this is also waterproof! Greatly recommended!!!”

“What a great little machine! Playing music can be so unpredictable, with some songs having faster tempos or higher volume than others. This sound machine plays just loud enough to cover up distractions from other rooms. I love the ocean waves!”

“We needed a second booster chair for our table. Went with this product. But what makes it better then others is that its height adjusts! I love that my child’s knees don’t hit under the table anymore. I plan to get this product for all my friends having children. It is a must! So portable when you are eating somewhere you know doesn’t have a booster.”
